Meh – that title doesn’t work, but now I can’t get it out of my head. 27 degrees (above zero) and 8″ of snow counts as a snowstorm in 2021
One of the calmer, more serene moments of 2020
Mele Kalikimaka
That time my very shy, introverted 88 y/o friend invited me to a day at Coney Island…
Pre-Parade: Twenty three years on from active duty, a 51-year-old looks back.
Chosen to represent U.S. Military Veterans in the 17th of May (Norwegian Day) Parade as the Standard Bearer of Norway’s colors.
(I forgot to tell them I was Irish…).

…climbs the fire escape here in the middle of NYC to eat, play & nap (in that order), seen here with Ka Kane (“The Man” in Hawaiian).
Yeah, so that funny looking cat dropped off this funny looking kitten in a storage closet.
It’s like I’m in a Gotham City production of some bloody Disney animated Woodland Forest Creatures movie…
Wahine U’i (“Pretty Woman”) foreground, and brother Ka Kane, being mind-controlled into nappy time by the laser gaze of the funny looking closet kitten.
(Also marks the precise moment I went from International Playboy to Cat Lady).
“Kitters” at my Chelsea NO PETS! building. She always stared at the same spot on the wall during a particularly challenging poop.
Ah, we Earthlings are so similar.
Her back feet straddle the water in the bowl, I’m guessing, to reduce tinkle splash?
Who’s a good girl!

(Hardly anyone could tell I accidentally did a bump in the restroom – you know, being in Rome and all…)
I ran Coast Guard Operations out of the Aviation Detachment as the Operations Petty Officer.
Sitting on $1 billion worth of Medellín inventory on this Coast Guard C-130, outside my office, GTMO, Cuba
Served aboard the CGC Sapelo (WPB 1314), A 110′ Cutter with a crew of 16.
(The cutter, represented at the bottom of the patch, could go 9 knots just kicking one main out of neutral – clutch ahead on a Paxman Valenta diesel = nearly 10 knots speed).
@dougiemuscle (Instagram), seen here, was the Nuclear Propulsion Officer [he ran the nuclear reactor] aboard the U.S. Navy’s brand new, fast attack submarine, the USS Columbus (SSN-762) out of Pearl Harbor, HI.
My working notes serving aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Chase (WHEC-718).
Slight water damage from the California’s Camp Fire.
Served on the Chase during Operation Uphold Democracy: President Clinton’s military intervention to return Jean-Bertrand Aristide, Haiti’s first democratically elected president, back to his island nation, post coup d’état.
